Oxymoron, kafa karışıklığı, şaşkınlık, paradoks gibi etkili duygular yaratabilmek amacıyla, zıt ya da birbiri ile çelişen ifadelerin aynı cümle içerisine konulduğu bir figure of speech yani söz sanatıdır.

An oxymoron (usual plural oxymorons, more rarely oxymora) is a rhetorical device that uses an ostensible self-contradiction to illustrate a rhetorical point or to reveal a paradox.
The most common form of oxymoron involves an adjective–noun combination of two words, but they can also be devised in the meaning of sentences or phrases.
1- Single-word oxymorons
They may be composed of dependent or independent morphemes. For example; pianoforte ( soft load), prepostures cattfish, bridegroom, bittersweet, ballpoint, speechwriting, someone.
These oxymorons consist of two different words. In this combination of two words, there is no relation in meanings. Combination happens only in appearance. For example; the word “nook” as composed of “no” and “ok” or the surname “Noyes” as composed of “no” plus “yes”
3- Oxymoron apparent
These oxymorons don’t comprise of two complete opposite words. But the words which come together imply a strong nonconcurrence. Örneğin; divided unity, dry pond, elected king,
This kind of oxymoron is effective for a specific perspective and changes according to the point of view and experiences. For example; honest politician, equal justice, fighting for peace
Some writers categorize this type of oxymoron in terms of generalization by most people. When we talk about oxymoron, the definition is simple and clear; opposite ideas or meanings come together. Most of oxymorons are in this grup. For example; fast waiter, good beating, advanced beginner.
6-Oxymorons with adjective–noun combination
The most common form of oxymoron involves an adjective–noun combination of two words, but they can also be devised in the meaning of sentences or phrases. One classic example of the use of oxymorons in English literature can be found in this example from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet;
O brawling love! O loving hate!

O heavy lightness, serious vanity!
Misshapen chaos of well-seeming forms!
